Smt. Nandita Choudhury, Senior Principal Scientist & Head, Resource Quality Assessment Division, of CSIR- Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) is working in this Institute since 1982 after obtaining the post graduate degree in Geology from the University of Calcutta. Since then, she was actively involved in the R&D activities related to Coal Petrology and its application to different coal utilizations processes. Her sphere of activities encompasses the meaningful application of coal petrology in the areas of coal preparation, coal carbonization, coal combustion and CBM exploration studies.
She has to her credit about fifty two publications in both National and International journals and in International/National seminars/workshops and one patent . She is also co-author of ‘Chandra’s Text Book of Applied Coal petrology’ authored by Dr. Debabrata Chandra, Dr. Swapan Gobinda Chaudhuri, Mrs Nandita Choudhury. Published by Jijnasa Publishing House Kolkata in January 2007. She is a recipient of Subrata Ghose’ Memorial award of MGMI for the year 2003-04 for outstanding performance in Coal Petrology during the period 2001-05. She has also bagged Silver medal awarded by MGMI in the year 2000-01 for the paper ‘Petrographic approach in studying maceral reactivity with special reference to Indian coals. She has handled several research projects as project leader or project coordinator. She is also life member of The Mining Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India & South Asian Association of Economic Geologists. She has long association with Bureau of Indian Standards as a member PCDC and as Convener & member of Solid Mineral Fuels sub -committee (PCD 7.3)
