A first class first in M.Sc Applied Psychology (Organizational behaviour specialization) from University of Calcutta , she has done PGDHRM from IISWBM and her Ph.D as a research fellow from Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata. Her Doctoral thesis is in the area of organizational health of rural banks, spirituality in management, personal value system of bank employees. Presently she is a fellow of Microfinance Researchers Alliance funded by Ford foundation.
She is the recipient of Dr. Deva Senapathy Young Scientist award (2003) by Indian Academy of Applied Psychology and ‘In Search of Excellence’ award (2004) by Pondicherry Psychology Association for her research work. Before joining VGSOM, IIT Kharagpur she was working as a faculty in the area of OB and HR, Business Ethics in School of Management Sciences, Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur. Susmita has several publications to her credit in various national journals and conferences. Her research areas include Organizational health, Spiritual health of organization, Quality of work life, Human behaviour in built environment, Competency mapping, Psychological issues in Microfinance. She has guided several MBA projects on various aspects of HR and OB and presently guiding one Ph.D student. She has also done consultancy projects for ONGC,Tata Metaliks,Berger Paints, UAL Bengal etc and given invited talks on various topics to IOC, Burn Standard Company, Indian Air force , Tata Bearings, ISI Kolkata, HCCI, STEP etc. She is the member of the editorial board of various national journals.
