Dr. Subba Reddy B

He is extensively involved in Teaching, Guidance to students, Research & Development, Testing, Evaluation & Certification of High Voltage apparatus. He has been involved in several national level projects and has completed more than 250 Consultancy and research projects for various clients in India and abroad. He has established (a) a unique National level Artificial Pollution experimental facility, (b) Dissolved gas analyzing facility (c) Surge Testing & Renewable Energy sources Laboratory and (d) Solar photo voltaic laboratory at the IISc, Bangalore.

He has developed a Novel Field Control Electrodes for Ceramic disc insulators used in high voltage transmission/distribution systems. This invention is of immense benefit to the Industry/Utilities/society in addressing the issue of power interruptions caused by contamination/pollution induced flashovers/outages.

His research interests include: High Voltage Engg, Pollution flashover studies on transmission line insulators, lightning, surge arresters/surge protection, studies on high temperature, high current low sag conductors, renewable energy systems etc. He has guided three post-doc fellows, five M.E and several UG projects. Presently, supervising five research scholars. He has 120 research articles published in reputed International/National Journals & conferences.

He has received several National / international awards/prizes: the prestigious being

• NRDC Meritorious Societal Invention Award, awarded by National Research Development Corporation, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, NEW-DELHI.
• INAE Innovative Project Award, for best PhD Thesis in the country, awarded by Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), NEW-DELHI.
• ISTE – L&T National Award (First prize) for best Master’s Thesis in Electrical/Electronic Engg., awarded by Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), New-Delhi
• Best Paper Presentation Award by GE-Energy & Diploma by Czech Technical University at Prague, Czech-Republic.

He has delivered technical lectures at various places in India and abroad. His technical visits include Srilanka, Malaysia, Singapore, France, Czech Republic, Hong-Kong, China, USA, Canada etc. He is a Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India), Fellow Society of Power Engineers, New-Delhi, Senior Member, IEEE-USA and Life Member, Instrument Society of India.

He is a Member: Selection/Promotion review committee at Central Power Research Institute, Blore, Member: Power, Infrastructure, Contracts, Amenities & Solar Energy Initiative committees at IISc., Member, Board of Studies and Advisory committee for several Institutes. He is a doctoral thesis examiner for the Universities of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
