BRIEF PROFILE OF DR. PINAKI SARKAR Dr Pinaki Sarkar is Principal Scientist of CSIR-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research, Dhanbad. He joined erstwhile Central Fuel Research Institute in the year 1997. He obtained his B. Tech, M. Tech and Ph. D (Tech) from the University of Calcutta. His basic discipline is Chemical Technology with specialization in Ceramic Engineering. He is life member of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, Material Research Society of India and Indian Ceramic Society.
Dr. Sarkar is working in the area of coal combustion since last 10 years out of his 15 years of service in CIMFR, Dhanbad. He is now leading basic studies on coal combustion using differential scanning calorimetry and Thermo-gravimetric analysis (DSC-TGA). He participated actively in several nationally important projects on coal combustion sponsored by SSRC (Ministry of Coal), NTPC, NALCO, Reliance, Gondwana Geo Tech., Tata Steel, etc. He has also worked in the area of Fly ash Utilization for development of value added products in the project sponsored by Fly Ash Mission (DST). He has worked in a collaborative project with Indian Oil Corporation on heavy Residue up-gradation and presently he is giving leadership to a similar kind of project sponsored by HPCL (R&D) centre, Bangalore. He has also worked with VSSC (ISRO) on mesophase development project for potential application like carbon fibre production. He is a member of NATOM (Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India) since very inception of NATCOM – I programme towards the preparation GHG inventory for Energy and Transformation Sector. He has given leadership in different activities on GHG estimation (especially for estimation in power, steel and cement sector) and on preparation of ‘Energy sector inventory’ during NATCOM-I and NATCOM-II for India’s communication to UNFCCC (i.e., UNITED NATIONS FRAME WORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE). He is a member of INCCA (INDIAN NETWORK FOR CLIMATE CHANGE ASSESSMENT) constituted by Ministry of Environment and forests, Govt. of India. He has got around twenty five publications and two patents filed to his credit. Also, he has contributed towards the publication of three books published by (Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India).
